Architect: L.B. Westerman.

Year Built: 1883 (major renovations in 1911-1912).

The Pecos County Courthouse is located in Fort Stockton, Texas. The existing Courthouse is the only one constructed in Pecos County, but it has been substantially renovated from its original design.

With an area of 4,776 square miles, Pecos County is the 2nd largest county in the State of Texas.

From the Pecos County Historical marker:

Formed from Presidio County, created May 3, 1871. Organized March 9, 1875. On March 9, 1875, the following county officers were elected: George M. Frazer, Chief Justice. Cesario Torre, Commissioner. Francis Rooney, Commissioner. Hipolito Carrasco, Commissioner. Fort Stockton, County Seat. Oil was discovered in the Yates field in 1926.

We visited the courthouse during December 2020. A surprise snow storm shut down IH 10 and we were snowbound in Fort Stockton for 3 days, including New Year’s Eve 2020-2021. The grounds were beautiful with virgin snow!
